is your “one-stop shop” for recreation information in and on our nation’s federal public lands. The site, initially developed as a portal to reserve campgrounds, has been growing to include a library of trip planning content for you to share with your guests and potential visitors. Whether it’s hiking, water skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing, backpacking or just relaxing in camp by a stream, Recreation.gov has hundreds of options and loads of advice to connect people with their passions. The objective is to support their vacation experiences on all levels-from planning their visits, to experiencing the nation’s parks, forests, wildlife refuges and waterways in an authentic way and to sharing those memories with their friends and the world.

NPHA Fall Meeting – October 20 – 22, 2014

“The importance of the MOU crafted by NPPC with the National Park Service is clearly visible now.  The IPW in May 2015 will again feature a Federal Row — bigger and better than ever – thanks to NPPC efforts, supported by concessioners and others.  And responding to NPS Director Jon Jarvis’s public calls for help in keeping national parks relevant to 21st Century Americans and to the importance of inviting all Americans to Find Your Park, NPPC is teaming up with NPHA in October 2014 to put together a marvelous program entitled MARKETING PARKS AND THE GREAT OUTDOORS TO ALL AMERICANS – AND MORE INTERNATIONAL VISITORS, TOO! and featuring such heavyweights as: Chris Thompson, President & CEO, Brand USA; Dave Bratton, Managing Partner, Destination Analysts, Inc.; Carlos Alcazar, Managing Director of The Tombras Group; John Peters, President USA TODAY Travel Media Group;  Ken Dowling, Partner, GREYnyc;  and concessioner Jerry Jacobs Jr., Principal, Delaware North Companies and Member, US Travel and Tourism Advisory Board,” said Derrick Crandall, NPCA Counselor.

National Park Service Centennial Gains Momentum

Find Your Park campaign to be featured via NPPC at IPW 2015 and so much more…

As 2016 approaches, the National Park Service is focusing its Centennial plans around one goal – to connect with and create the next generation of National Park Service visitors, supporters, and advocates. The Centennial presents an opportunity to reintroduce the National Park Service to all Americans as well as to international visitors, showcase the width and breadth of the national park system and NPS programs, increase engagement and connection, and build support for the future.

A key component of the Centennial commemoration is the Find Your Park campaign, a massive marketing effort that will launch in spring 2015. The campaign will include traditional media, social media, PR, digital, television, celebrity talent, special events, and more. Find Your Park will be visible across the country, and the National Park Service is inviting local partners and communities to participate. Here are a few ways that tourism partners specifically can be involved:

  • The National Park Service is developing a toolkit of campaign materials that partners, including the travel and tourism sector, will be able to use for promotional, marketing, communication, and branding purposes. The toolkit will include creative resources, graphic assets, templates, and key messages that will enable partners to align their communications with the theme of the national campaign, Find Your Park, and will be flexible enough to layer over existing or planned marketing assets and deployments. The first phase of the toolkit will be ready for release in fall 2014, and the National Park Service will be proactively announcing its availability through multiple channels, including via park staff, NPPC, and partner associations.
  • The commemoration of the Centennial will include events and programs across the country. That National Park Service is developing a set of national programs to celebrate the Centennial, while parks and partners will be holding events, launching special programs, and designing unique activities locally as well. Tourism offices and gateway communities are encouraged to reach out to their local park or program now to coordinate planning. Many parks and gateway communities have already started planning, and a national calendar of events and programs is in development that will feature celebrations across the country.
  • The National Park Service in partnership with the National Park Foundation has launched a centennial licensing program to allow for retail use of the new Centennial logo. For more information, please visit www.nationalparks.org/centennial/licensing.
  • In late May 2015, the National Park Service and its partners will be featuring the Find Your Park theme at IPW in Orlando. With Find Your Park highly visible at the show and Brand USA previewing the release of the national parks IMAX film, IPW will be a great opportunity for gateway communities and the travel sector to leverage and align with the campaign as well. Attendees are welcome to incorporate Find Your Park into their IPW presence, using the assets provided in the toolkits that will be released over the next few months. If an organization at IPW has not yet engaged with Find Your Park, the show will be a great opportunity to talk with NPS representatives about the campaign and learn about how to participate. So be sure to visit the National Park Service booths on Federal Row at IPW 2015!
